Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Yoga Sansthan

Namaste and Greetings,

It is with immense pride and spiritual joy that I, Director, Director of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Yoga Sansthan, welcome you to our official portal. Our mission is rooted in the ancient wisdom of Yoga, yet fully aligned with contemporary scientific understanding. We strive to make authentic, government-certified Yoga education accessible to every seeker — from the novice to the advanced practitioner.

The global recognition of Yoga reached a historic milestone when the United Nations General Assembly, on 11 December 2014, declared 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. This resolution was inspired by the visionary call of our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, who eloquently presented Yoga as a holistic gift to humanity — one that unites the body, mind, and soul.

On 21 June 2015, the world witnessed the first International Day of Yoga with unprecedented enthusiasm. In New Delhi, at Rajpath, about 35,000 people — including the Prime Minister and dignitaries from across the globe — performed 21 asanas for 35 minutes. This historic gathering achieved two Guinness World Records: the largest yoga class (35,985 participants) and the most nationalities (84) in a single yoga session. Millions more joined from every corner of the earth, reaffirming Yoga’s universal appeal.

At Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Yoga Sansthan, we take this spirit forward by offering rigorous certification programs, well-structured examinations, and a holistic curriculum that covers all eight limbs of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga. I invite you to become part of this living tradition — whether as a student, teacher, or lifelong practitioner.

International Day of Yoga: A Global Movement

On 27 September 2014, during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea of an annual International Day of Yoga, noting that 21 June — the Summer Solstice — is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and holds special significance in many cultures. The proposal received overwhelming support, and on 11 December 2014, the UN General Assembly approved Resolution 69/131, officially establishing 21 June as the International Day of Yoga.

The first celebration on 21 June 2015 was a magnificent display of unity. In the heart of India’s capital, at Rajpath (now Kartavya Path), 35,985 yoga enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds performed a common set of 21 asanas for 35 minutes, led by Prime Minister Modi himself. This event created two Guinness World Records — a testament to Yoga’s power to bring people together beyond boundaries of nation, race, and religion.
